The art room at Evans is a busy and colorful reminder of the emphasis we place on creativity. Under the energetic guidance of our art teacher, students look forward to these classes. Varieties of media are used; these include water colors, pastels, chalk, clay, and stitchery.
Whether it is a collage or a painting, a drawing, or a clay sculpture, our students find joy in the process of self-expression. While crafting projects such as an Alexander Calder mobile or painting a Cezanne still-life watercolor, students are taught art techniques as well as art history. Students learn to recognize works by major artists throughout history and begin to build a solid foundation of life-long art appreciation.
An appreciation and a genuine love of music is cultivated at Evans. Children have opportunities to sing in groups, perform as soloists, participate in small ensembles, take part in the bell choir, and become acquainted with new music, as well as traditional and seasonal selections.
Students are inspired throughout the year to sing, dance, and act. Our fall calendar showcases Readers Theatre, a dramatic presentation of written work to focus the students to read with expressive voices and gestures. A spring Poetry Festival for Lower School students inspires confidence and stimulates an appreciation for poetry. Spring productions for our Upper School have included Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Beauty & The Beast, Charlie Brown, Sound of Music, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, and The Music Man.
